Laser scanner or 2D imager scanner? How do you know which one is right for you?

Laser scanner depend on the reflection of laser light to get a good scan.

• Due to the nature of laser light, only a thin (linear) slice of the barcode can be read at any one time.
• Laser scanenr can not scan barcodes on screens as screens do not reflect laser light properly.
• Laser barcode scanner can't read any 2D & QR barcode scanner

Imaging scanner works by taking pictures and running sophisticated image processing algorithms on each image to decode barcodes.

If your barcode is 2D barcode or you need to read barcodes from the screen, such as a computer monitor, smartphone, or tablet, a 2D imager is likely the way to go. According to the nature of its camera focus and photographing， the imaging scanner is not sensitive to read long 1D bar code. If your main purpose is to scan one-dimensional long barcodes （longer than 10 cm）， we suggest you purchase a laser scanner. Generally, when reading 1D long barcodes, a laser scanner can read the barcode more easily than an imaging scanner.

One-dimensional (1D) barcodes are linear barcodes，with vertical lines made of varying widths and gaps.

Two-dimensional (2D) barcode, encode data generally in square or rectangular patterns of two dimensions.
